*** The 2026 season will be a small study season, which means that we will not be offering an application for volunteer positions this year. You are still welcome to contact us with questions, and please check back next year for information about 2027!***

Join the AVP team!

Every year a number of motivated undergraduate and graduate students participate in the Agora Valley Project’s excavations at Morgantina. These student volunteers participate in all aspects of archaeological fieldwork and gain experience in the excavation, documentation, and analysis of archaeological materials. They develop and practice proper excavation methodology while learning about the site of Morgantina and its broader Sicilian (and Mediterranean) context.

Student volunteers also typically work with the archaeobotanical experts doing soil flotation and analysis, the geospatial experts combining digital documentation and spatial analysis of the excavations, the ceramics experts sorting and studying the pottery, the conservation experts treating and preserving the excavated objects and the materials experts documenting and studying the conserved objects. Although AVP is not formally a field school, our alums can tell you that it is an intensive education in archaeological theory and practice!
